We only use full-grain, premium or unique leathers such as Barenia, Matcha leather, and the likes. These leathers are used in high-end saddlery and luxury goods, not mass-produced case skins with dubious origins and no traceability. When you buy a MUSO product you know exactly where the leather is sourced from.

Patina is generally characterized as the aging of leather, which manifests in two main ways. First is the darkening of the leather due to UV exposure. Second is the slight sheen that develops over time due to the absorption of oils and sweat from your hand.

Yes. Even with leather that has been Chrome tanned, or with leather that has been heavily processed or finished, patina will show, albeit at a more slower pace.

That is not true. Vegetable tanned leather, specially those of natural shades, tend to patina rapidly within a few weeks. That has no bearing on the quality of the leather. If anything, it signals the lacks of acrylic or PU finishes on the leather, showing the tannery's confidence in the leather.

Patina does not affect the durability of the leather. Specially since we are using full-grain leather, the outer side of the leather still has the grain intact and untouched. That layer is the most durable side of the leather hide, and patina will not affect it.

All leather phone cases are handmade! Contrary to popular belief, leather cases aren't made by some machine.

Like anything else, leather cases is made of components, notably the hardware, leather, adhesive, shell, magnets, and lining.

The magnets for Magsafe are generally part of the plastic shell made out of PC or TPU. Adhesive is applied to a piece of leather, and then is wrapped around the shell while being stretched.

In the case of Full-Grain, the surface or grain side of the leather isn't sanded or buffed, and as such will naturally show striations, bite marks, and creases innate to the leather hide itself. If any form of buffing or sanding has occurred, leather is classified as Top Grain or Corrected Full-Grain.

Genuine leather is the most interesting since it is the only commonly seen "classification" that does not possess a strict definition. However, Genuine leather simply means leather. It possesses no authority over the leather's quality or durability. However in practice, a lot of manufacturers use it to trick customers into thinking that the leather is of high-grade by plastering "Genuine" everywhere. Genuine leather tends to be the cheapest leather available, as the hides it come from are most damaged, unsuited for other grades.

Plasticky feeling leather is likely due to the finish and processing used on top of the leather. Coatings such PU or acrylic bases coatings help seal the leather from moisture damage, but sacrifice true genuine feel, patina, and often imbues a chemical smell that is repulsive.

These coatings are generally used with pigments to correct the leather and make it look nicer visually than they are. It is like putting lipstick on a pig.
