FAQ

What makes Barenia leather special?

BARENIA® is a French heritage leather known for its buttery-smooth feel, natural oils, and rich patina. Made through a rare double-tanning process, it develops patina like no other. It is used often by luxury brands for its supple, yet durable feel

How close are these to the OG Apple iPhone leather cases?

The feel of the leather is very similar to Apple's old leather cases, with a smooth, nappa-like texture and beautiful patina. However, we took it a step further by using an aniline vegetable tan finished leather, resulting in better quality and a more even patina. Apple's old leather was of semi-aniline, chrome tan nature, optimized for mass production rather than quality.

What makes Barenia different than Matcha leather?

While both are full-grain leathers, Matcha leather is semi-aniline and is chrome tanned as opposed to the Barenia being aniline and combo tanned. Due to this, Barenia will patina quicker than Matcha, with Matcha leather having a smaller variance, giving higher consistency between each case.

Why does the Cognac Tan patina quicker?

The Cognac Tan variant is a natural, earthy shade that is lighter than the Onyx Black option, making the patina prominent.

The case I received looks a little different from the site.

The leather used is full-grain, meaning that the surface grain layer has not been treated or buffed. As a result, natural variations may appear which may include scarring, folds, creases, bite marks, etc. These "flaws" blend into the rest of the leather as it patinas. No 2 pieces of leather are the exact same, because no 2 animals live the exact same life.

Do dark colors patina differently?

Patina generally manifests in 2 ways: the first being the darkening of color due to UV exposure from the sun, and the second being the sheen that develops on the leather from the oils transferred from your hands. Darker shades' darkening are subtle, but will still develop the sheen
